Meet Oscar Zia, the rising Swedish singer songwriter, television host and your date for New Year's Eve.
Oscar Zia has been steadily on the rise in recent years and 2022 looks set to be his biggest yet. Becoming a household name in his native country after appearing as a finalist on the Swedish versions of X factor and Dancing With The Stars, it was Oscar's 2016 appearance on Melodifestivalen (Sweden's national selection for Eurovision and their biggest televised event) that pushed his name into international pop prominence. His entry, 'Human' finished in second place and his coming out the same month showed an artist intent on authenticity and forging his own path.
In the last year that is exactly what he has continued to do. A string of recent singles have crossed the four million streams mark on Spotify alone, he has completed a national sell out tour, made a series of national television appearances and in a full circle moment, was announced the host for 2022's Melodifestivalen.
This month, Oscar shot the video for his latest single, Nyårsvals (New Year's Waltz). ”After seeing the scenes from the prom in Sex Education, I became inspired to make a ballad as I dreamed about a New Year’s celebration where I find someone to sneak away from the party with, that we then sit there alone on a bus at noon and forgets everything happening outside the window”, Zia told us. ”I hope that love never ends, even when you’re 100 years old. That I still want to dance with the one I love, dress up and drink champagne. The video is about life long love, a celebration of life and a reminder that it’s never too late”, Oscar continued.
In a Dreaming exclusive, we sent Oscar a disposable camera to shoot a BTS editorial of his new video.
